Graphic design and those creative souls who linger behind the elements of it are, at it’s core, fun, aren’t they? Graphic Design is quirky. It’s clever and it makes the world around us a better place to be in. This week’s links are a small showcase of the fun people have had in their work, from the quirky cards of King Popcorn, the still brilliant posters for Olivetti to the workspaces where creative wonders are produced and the advertising that leads us to the places where the seeds of our skills are planted.
King Popcorn
Quirkiness is often hard to pull off. Some seem to be made up of the two and are charming and loveable because of it. Other’s seem to fake it an attempt to be unique. Luckily, these cards (and I’d imagine their maker) are naturally charming and lovable. King Popcorn’s (Alison Shanik) hand-sewn cards “are meant to be absurdly decadent keepsakes” and I love them.
Graphic Design for Olivetti
These designs for the Olivetti typewriters are just fantastic. The colour and vibrancy of the shapes and patterns are beautiful!

Deskography
Ohhhh, I have such a thing for seeing the desks of others, so deskography is a little slice of heaven. There are a number of these sites around, and there isn’t much that distinguishes this one from the others. I mean there’s only so many ways you can show photos of peoples desks, you know?
That being said, I still spent a fair chunk of my coffee break enjoying what they had to offer! Go check it out, a winner for sure

30 Dual Element Logos
When a logo has a well crafted picture within a picture or meaning with a meaning, it always makes you smile, doesn’t it? The designer and client were smart enough to have something hidden away – like a little prize for playing
I wouldn’t say that all of the logos in Fuel’s collection are fantastic, but some of them are brilliance wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a vector
The Post Family visits Aesthetic Apparatus
I’ve loved the work of print masters Aesthetic Apparatus for a while now and was happy to read this interview The Post Family put together during a studio tour.

Four bold types
I love this type sample shown on Grain Edit. Showing off four fonts—Egyptian Bold Extended, Annonce Grotesque, Egyptian Bold Condensed and Old Gothic Bold Italic—there is something ever so charming, isn’t there? I’d love to get a high-res scan of the Annonce Grotesque page below (black and cyan) to print and hang on my wall. The Old Gothic Bold Italic page is a killer too, especially the uppercase page on the right – there is something so 70s-future about it, isn’t there?
School of Visua Arts Advertising
“Creative thinkers such as Stefan Sagmeister, Paula Scher and Milton Glaser teach classes at the School of Visual Arts. This campaign reflects that tradition by encouraging people everywhere to think while also giving them a place to write down their thoughts.”
I. Frickin’. Love. It
Auto Tuning
Ahhh, so silly but so funny for the end of the week
Helvetica Ads
Two great Helvetica ads from an amazing photostream on Flickr. Nice way to end this week’s links I think
“The source of the creative impulse is a mystery…
Ideas may come from anywhere, anything, any time, any place…
The spring from rather unromantic, sometimes unexpected, or even unsavory sources.”
Paul Rand.
