Bloodwars V2 #1

Last week I linked to the work of Sfaustina (who has since taken his folio site down, yay for timing). In the few days since then, a new issue of Bloodwars (the first of Volume Two) has gone live and is worth checking out

Ginger Monkey

There is so much to love about Ginger Monkey, right from the second the graceful front page of Tim Lane’s folio loads up.

With each turning of the page of popular-at-the-time style, there are always a few who stand out. Not because they’re very good at what they do, but because they did it before it was cool and will do it after. Tom Lane’s thing is florals – and he’s bloody good at it.

Transmission

A couple of weeks ago I posted the work of Stuart Tolley, an editorial designer who recently started work on the much-mentioned Disappear Here – the Spring/Summer issue is available from April 2nd and is a freebie if you’re in the right place. And he’s damn good at what he does. A lot of his grittier work was very impressive to say the least.

He’s recently launched a new design studio, Transmission, and has a new site and fresh work to go along with it – well worth checking out. There is online store as well, which has a few posters in it at the moment and will be seeing some Tshirts being added soon! Check it out!

(I especially love the first image below, a poster for sale which plots “the relationship between the bass guitar and electric guitar in the song ‘I Shot the Sheriff’ by Bob Marley”.)

Moleskine.com Redesign

One of the first articles I wrote here on retinart was a two-part piece on my love for the Moleskine notebooks. (“Blessed be the notebooks of Modo & Modo, draped in cloth of oil” I wrote.) So when I read about the redesign of the official homepage I was quite intrigued. I remember the previous version wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t clean and fresh and neat like most of the web is today. It had a three-and-a-half-years-ago feel to it, know what I mean?

Dharma Wants You

I’m a big Lost fan. With Battlestar Galactica now over (as we know it, come on spin off series and TV movie!), it’s pretty much the only show I watch religiously. I’m also a big fan of materials developed for films and television series that bring the world created by the writers into our own—a lot of the recent material for Watchmen was great. So obviously, these trumped up ads, with their half-tone patterns, wear and tear paper, and spot on typesetting by Adam Campbell got my heart-a-racing.

Mor Cosmetics

… It’s starting to seem as if I post something from the Dieline almost every week, but this is so great, how can I be stupid enough to not share? Yeaaah, exactly.

When I was on a holiday in Melbourne and my wife was dragging and I were happily going cosmetic stall to cosmetic shop, I stumbled over a few beautiful product designs from Mor. So I’ll happily testify that the wooden bottle is sturdy and the last cut etching on it is quite beautiful. I’m sure the rest of the product are of the same high quality.

Holi – The Festival of Colors

On March 11th Hindu populations around the world welcomed Spring and celebrated the triumph of good over evil during the Festival of Colors – Holi. These photos from the always amazing The Big Picture, as great as they are, must hardly do it justice.
